The Bedrock Gardener
In a solo exhibition of new work The Bedrock Gardener embodies precarity and resilience in an urban ecology, through material collections and phantom images embedded in cast figurations and dried liquids. We pick up, hold on, sift through, and discard in both the physical and internal world. In this way our external and internal environments become interchangeable forms which participate in a reciprocal exchange in how they are both affected and effected. What forms in this niche is the evolving geobody, a vessel in which layers of information both compile and erode. This process of unearthing and of sedimentation is visualized through the efforts of a mother gardener, attempting to cultivate in/an impossibly solid ground.
